๐ฅ I Am Jesus Christ โ Characters & NPCs Guide
Complete profiles for every major character in I Am Jesus Christ:
Jesus, the Twelve Disciples, key biblical figures, antagonists, and important NPCs.
Each entry includes their role in the story, gameplay interactions, and biblical source references.
In I Am Jesus Christ, the player directly embodies Jesus of Nazareth
in first-person perspective throughout the entire game. There is no cutaway
to a third-person view โ the entire narrative is experienced through Jesus' eyes,
from his Baptism in the Jordan River to the Resurrection.
Jesus has two primary resource bars: Faith (powers all miracles and
Divine Vision) and Followers (represents influence and is
required for certain chapter thresholds). Both are managed throughout gameplay.
Jesus does not speak directly โ his presence and actions drive all NPC reactions.
The game draws from the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, depicting
Jesus' ministry from approximately 27โ30 AD across the regions of Judea,
Galilee, Samaria, and Perea. The portrayal is respectful and biblically
faithful to the New Testament narrative.
๐ฅ The Twelve Disciples
The Twelve Disciples are recruited progressively throughout the story, primarily
in Chapters 1 and 2. Each Disciple requires a specific recruitment interaction โ
either completing a task, performing a miracle near them, or initiating dialogue
at the right story moment. All twelve must be recruited for the
"Twelve" Steam achievement.
โ ๏ธ Recruitment Window Warning: Three Disciples have limited
recruitment windows โ Simon Peter (Chapter 1, Jordan River region), Matthew
(Chapter 2, Capernaum tax booth), and Judas Iscariot (Chapter 3, Jerusalem).
Missing their recruitment prompts does not end the game but locks the "Twelve" achievement.
Always use Divine Vision in new areas to detect purple-aura Disciple candidates.
โ
Simon Peter
Lead Disciple / Fisher
A fisherman from Bethsaida, Simon Peter is the first disciple called and the most prominent among the twelve. He appears in multiple chapters โ from the Miraculous Catch in Chapter 3 (where he falls to his knees in awe) to his denial at Gethsemane in Chapter 5. His loyalty arc is one of the game's main emotional threads. He sinks during the Walk on Water sequence but is saved by Jesus.

Matthew (Levi)
Disciple / Former Tax Collector
Matthew was a hated tax collector (working for Rome) at a booth in Capernaum. Jesus's recruitment of him shocked onlookers. He has significant dialogue about transformation and forgiveness at the Last Supper.

Judas Iscariot is the treasurer of the disciples and the one who betrays Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. His in-game dialogue across Chapters 4 and 5 gradually shifts in tone โ darker, more transactional. His Last Supper dialogue is unique and foreshadows betrayal. โญ Key Biblical Characters
These characters play significant roles in the main story across multiple chapters.
They include John the Baptist, Mary (mother of Jesus), Mary Magdalene, Lazarus,
and other major New Testament figures whose interactions drive the narrative.
๐ง
John the Baptist
Prophet / Baptizer
John the Baptist is the first major NPC of the game. He performs the Baptism at the Jordan River in Chapter 1 โ the tutorial's central event. A rugged, wild-looking prophet wearing camel hair and eating locusts, he introduces the game's core narrative and mechanics. He is the first to call Jesus 'the Lamb of God.' His later imprisonment by Herod Antipas is referenced in Chapter 3 NPC dialogues.
Mary Magdalene first appears in Chapter 3 after Jesus casts out seven demons from her (referenced in backstory dialogue). She becomes a devoted follower, accompanying Jesus through the Jerusalem chapters. She is present at the Crucifixion at Golgotha and is the first to discover the empty tomb in the post-Resurrection sequence. Her character carries significant emotional weight in Chapter 6.
Mary appears at the Cana wedding in Chapter 3, where she asks Jesus to help when the wine runs out โ directly prompting the first miracle. She is present at the Crucifixion in Chapter 6, where Jesus entrusts her care to the disciple John. She has warm, emotionally resonant dialogue at both appearances.

Lazarus of Bethany
Resurrected Figure
Lazarus is described as a beloved friend of Jesus and the brother of Mary and Martha. He has been dead for four days when Jesus arrives in Bethany. The raising of Lazarus is one of the most dramatic miracles of Chapter 4, featuring the 3-tendril soul guidance sequence. After resurrection, he appears briefly alive with his sisters and provides the final pre-Jerusalem Faith boost.
Pontius Pilate is the Roman prefect who presides over Jesus's trial in Chapter 6. He is portrayed as conflicted โ repeatedly stating he finds no basis for a charge against Jesus, yet ultimately yielding to crowd pressure. The trial sequence features dialogue options for Jesus to remain silent (biblically accurate) or speak. Pilate's famous hand-washing gesture occurs as a cutscene.

๐ Antagonists
The primary antagonists in I Am Jesus Christ include Satan (the principal
supernatural adversary), King Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate, and the Pharisee
leadership. Each antagonist appears at key story moments and drives specific
chapter conflicts.
๐ Satan โ Primary Antagonist
Satan is the most significant antagonist in I Am Jesus Christ, appearing
in three distinct encounters across Chapters 2, 5, and 6. Unlike most NPCs,
Satan has active gameplay mechanics โ he is the only antagonist that the player
directly confronts using Faith blasts and evasion. See the
Satan Boss Guide for full encounter walkthroughs.
Satan appears as the boss of Chapter 2 (Judean Desert) and as a spiritual presence during the final Resurrection sequence in Chapter 6. He is portrayed as a powerful supernatural being who tempts Jesus with three specific offers: turning stones to bread, jumping from the Temple pinnacle, and worshipping Satan in exchange for all earthly kingdoms. In combat, he has two distinct phases. His final defeat is achieved through divine soul guidance rather than physical force.
